Artist and Printmaker James Swann "Along the Lake"

James Swann (1905-1985) was born near Merkel, Texas. He entered Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas, where he began learning about printmaking. He later worked as a commercial artist in Fort Worth and as manager of an engraving company in Amarillo, where he completed his first etching, “Lone Pine Estes.” In 1932, he moved to Dallas and became an officer in Dallas Print and Drawing Collectors Society. In 1936, he became an active member of the Chicago Society of Etchers.

Swann exhibited continually over his career. He won a bronze metal at the Paris International Exposition for a pencil drawing, “Illinois Farm.” The list of his exhibitions is lengthy and includes most major museums and library galleries in the U.S.

Pencil and signed etching “Along the Lake,” 4 ½” x 5 ½”, matted and framed.
