Born to Perry Marcus Driver and Frances Ada Romshe in Lima, Ohio, Phyllis Diller attended Lima Central High School. She later became a housewife, mother and advertising copywriter. Early on, she appeared on The Jack Paar Show and as a contestant on Groucho Marx's quiz show, You Bet Your Life in the mid-1950s.

Later in the decade, her career took off when she sold out 87 straight weeks at San Francisco's legendary nightclub The Purple Onion. Ms. Diller's record for delivering 12 punchlines per minute still stands out in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ms. Diller is widely thought of as one of the pioneers of female stand-up comedy. Known for her distinct laugh, her character was that of a wild-haired housewife who made jokes about her husband "Fang" while smoking a cigarette from a long holder. She is believed to have opened stand-up to other women, such as Joan Rivers, Lily Tomlin and Roseanne Barr.

Her fame expanded when she and Bob Hope co-starred in 23 TV specials and three films in the 1960s. Each of these films was a failure. In the 1960s, Diller seemed to be everywhere in pop culture. She was a special guest on many television programs during that decade.

She wrote her autobiography, "Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse," in 2005.

Very nice inscribed and signed by Phyllis Diller 8" x 10" black and white. Slight crazing on the back from a small piece of removed tape, affecting nothing.
